Supreme Court Justice

Today was awesome. Besides starting my ballet class which, by the way, was awesome. I remember why I quit the first time–hardwork. Anyway the big thing was that I won a ticket to go see Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia (Ska-lee-ah, for those of you who can relate to my pronunciation problems). It was an awesome talk, he’s a great speaker. The entire time I couldn’t get over the fact that there were only nine of them in the entire country and not that many more in history and I was sitting less than 20 feet from him. Gosh, it was an amazing opportunity. His speech was mainly about the need for America to update its system of judges and how they can’t be expected to “answer the moral questions of society” that no one else can, they can only enforce the written law not the morality.

I leave you with three quotes I caught from his speech and the subsequent questions.

“My court created, God I hate the term, ‘a living constitution”.

“One shudders to think what kind of turmoil will meet the next election to Supreme Court Justice”.

This is my favorite though not as deep as the prior two: “That’s my explanation, it’s the only one that makes sense”.

School is Awesome

Chinese is amazing fun! I can say only a few things but enough to keep me entertained. I can’t believe I’m learning another language. My other classes are also very interesting, of course nothings offsets all the reading and work I have to do.

I am sorry for still not finishing the questions I had planned to ask of students visiting my page, it’s coming.

Thanks to everyone for being there for me, I totally appreciate it.

I shall go read, The Pecking Order.
